Epidemiology of parasite infections in Rwanda


Susceptibility to infections, malnutrition and socio-economic factors show complex interactions. Among children in rural southern Rwanda, infections with malaria parasites, HIV, and intestinal parasites were assessed as well as anaemia, iron deficiency, malnutrition and socio-economic data.

In addition, the efficacy of school-based deworming was determined. The project aims at describing the respective prevalences and risk factors of childhood parasite infections and diseases in this area to identify appropriate and efficient means of intervention and prevention.
